Quick answer: Indoor court halls have tall ceilings and hard floors, so squeaks, calls and hits echo across every court at once. Panels high on the end walls and well above playing height on the ceiling cut the echo without getting in the way of shuttles, lights or play.
Key takeaways
- Tall halls echo across every court.
- Panels go high, above playing height.
- Keep clear of lights and shuttle paths.
Why court halls echo
Badminton halls are tall so shuttles can fly high, and floors are hard so shoes grip. With several courts in one room, every squeak, smash and call bounces around the whole hall. The tall space lets each sound hang for a long time.
Where panels go
Put panels high on the end walls and on the ceiling, well above where shuttles travel. We map lights and fans first, then place panels in the gaps. See ceiling panels.

Will panels affect play?
Not when placed correctly. Players should never see panels in their line of sight for a high clear. Nothing hangs low enough to be hit.

Coaching and calls
With less echo, players hear line calls more easily. Coaches can run sessions across several courts without shouting. Groups waiting at the side can also talk more easily.
Access
Tall halls usually need a scaffold or lift to install. Scaffold is quoted separately. See high-ceiling installs.
What it costs
Large halls are planned by floor area and ceiling height. Panels are from S$185 each supplied and installed (50 mm, standard fixings included), or about S$255 per m². Scaffold for tall halls is quoted separately.
What we see on real jobs
In court halls we stay well above play height, so the panels never get in the way of the game.
