Quick answer: No. Acoustic panels do not stop neighbour noise. They soak up echo inside your room, but they do not stop sound passing through walls, floors and ceilings. Blocking neighbour noise needs soundproofing: sealing gaps, door seals, solid doors, better windows and, in some cases, extra wall layers.

Key takeaways

  • Panels soak up inside your room; they don’t block sound through walls.
  • First fixes: seal gaps and add door seals.
  • Bigger fixes: heavy doors, better glazing, extra wall layers (needs approval).

Why don’t panels block noise?

Blocking sound needs mass and airtightness. Panels are light and porous, designed to soak up, not block. Sound from next door travels through the wall and any gaps, and a panel does not stop either.

What helps with neighbour noise?

  1. Seal gaps around doors, windows and sockets.
  2. Add door seals and a drop-down seal.
  3. Solid, heavier doors and laminated or double glazing.
  4. Extra wall layers where allowed. See treatment vs soundproofing.

When do panels still help?

Only for echo inside your own room. If your room echoes, panels make your own voices, TV and music clearer. They do not lower the noise coming from next door.

What about HDB and condo rules?

Structural changes need approval. Seals and door upgrades are usually simpler to get done. Check with HDB or your MCST (your building management) before adding wall layers. See HDB flats and condos.

What we see on real jobs

If the noise comes from the neighbour, panels are not the fix. Seals and solid doors come first, and panels only make sense if the room also echoes.
