Quick answer: Temples, mosques and prayer halls often have hard floors, high ceilings and bare walls, so chanting, talks and sermons blur and echo. Acoustic panels on the upper walls and ceiling soak up that echo, so every word is clear without turning up the speakers. Panels come in colours and printed designs that respect the space.
Key takeaways
- Hard floors and high ceilings cause the echo.
- Panels on upper walls and ceiling fix it.
- Colours and prints can suit the space.
Why prayer halls echo
Prayer halls are big rooms with hard floors for easy cleaning, high ceilings and few soft furnishings. Sound bounces for a long time, so words run into each other. When the hall is full, people talk louder and it gets worse.
Where panels go
Put panels on the upper walls, above head height, and on the ceiling. Keep the front wall and any sacred areas as they are. The rear wall is often the best first spot, because it sends late echo back to the front. See hall echo fixes.

Keeping the look respectful
Choose colours that match the walls, or print patterns or calligraphy onto panels. Panels can also be made in custom sizes to sit inside existing wall frames. Done well, they look like part of the building.

Speakers and the room
Louder speakers only add to the echo. Fix the room first, then set the speakers. A calmer room lets the speakers run at a normal level. See church acoustic treatment.
Working around prayer times
Installation should be planned around prayer times, services and festivals. Most wall jobs take a few hours to 1 or 2 days. Tell us your quiet times early. We work Monday to Saturday in working hours; night and Sunday installs are possible with a surcharge, quoted case by case.
Fire safety
Prayer halls are public buildings, so panels must meet fire rules. Our Flexi™ panels are fire safe. For fire papers and QP/PE sign-off, we coordinate with the owner’s side and third-party consultants. See fire safety for panels.
A simple first phase
Start with the rear wall and the upper side walls. Listen during a talk for a few weeks. Add ceiling panels in phase two if needed.
What to send us
Send a short video taken during a talk or prayer. Add the hall size and photos of the walls and ceiling. Quotes from photos are free.
What we see on real jobs
Our church work carries over directly: big hard halls, many voices, and a need for words to reach the back.
