Quick answer: Industrial units are popular for gyms and boxes because they are big, open and affordable. They also echo badly: high ceilings, concrete floors, metal roofs and bare block walls. Plan acoustic panels on the ceiling and upper walls early, along with flooring for drops. High ceilings often need scaffold, which is quoted separately. Panels do not stop impact noise reaching other units.
Key takeaways
- High ceilings and concrete make big echo.
- Plan ceiling and wall panels at fit-out.
- Flooring, not panels, handles drop noise.
Why do industrial units echo so much?
The room is large, the ceiling is high and every surface is hard: concrete floor, block walls and often a metal roof. Sound has a long way to travel and nothing to soak into. Coaching and music turn into a roar when the room is full. See what RT60 means.
Where should panels go?
The ceiling is often the best place, as it is the biggest bare surface and away from gear. Upper walls come next, above rigs and wall-ball targets. Ceiling panels are always fixed mechanically. See ceiling vs wall panels.

What about scaffold and high ceilings?
High ceilings need scaffold or lifts to install safely, which is quoted separately. Planning panels during fit-out, before equipment arrives, makes access easier and cheaper. Ask for scaffold to be listed in your quote; standard fixings are included. See high ceiling installs.

Will neighbours in other units hear us?
No. Panels will not stop that. Industrial buildings carry impact noise from drops through the slab, and wall or ceiling panels do not block it. Use thick rubber flooring, platforms and drop pads. Read acoustic treatment vs soundproofing.
Does the landlord need to approve?
Usually yes for fixings to walls and ceilings. Building management may ask for product details and method statements. We provide those, plus risk assessments. See what building management asks.
What will it cost?
It depends on size and how much ceiling you treat. At S$185 per panel installed, 30 panels are about S$5,550 before scaffold, with standard fixings included. We price from photos and a floor plan. See acoustic panel prices.
Can I send a floor plan?
Yes. A floor plan with ceiling height and a few photos is enough for a first quote, and quotes from photos are free. Mark where rigs, racks and speakers will go so panels can avoid them. See what measurements you need.
Do printed panels work in boxes?
Yes. A printed panel wall can carry your brand and treat echo at the same time. Printed panels are made to order in about 4–6 weeks. Mount them above rig height so balls and bars do not hit them.
What we see on real jobs
The cheapest time to treat a high ceiling is before the rigs and racks go in. Once the floor is full, access takes longer.
