Quick answer: Most HDB bedrooms need 6 to 10 acoustic panels to stop the echo for calls and music. At S$185 per panel supplied and installed (50 mm, standard fixings included), that is about S$1,110 to S$1,850. Supply-only is from S$120 per panel, so S$720 to S$1,200 if you put them up yourself. Panels fix echo inside the room. They do not block your neighbour's noise.
Key takeaways
- 6 to 10 panels for a normal HDB bedroom.
- About S$1,110 to S$1,850 installed.
- Panels fix echo, not neighbour noise.
Why HDB bedrooms echo
HDB walls are thick concrete with smooth paint. The floor is often tiles or vinyl. Sound hits these hard surfaces and bounces straight back. Add an empty wall or two and you hear a ring when you talk or clap. It is worse in a new BTO before the furniture arrives.
How many panels you need
A 3 × 3.5 m bedroom usually needs 6 to 8 panels. A bigger master bedroom or a room used for music or streaming needs 8 to 10. Start with the walls beside and behind where you sit, then the wall you face. See acoustic treatment for HDB flats.

The cost, step by step
Each panel is S$185 supplied and installed, with standard fixings included. 6 × S$185 = S$1,110 and 10 × S$185 = S$1,850. Total: S$1,110 to S$1,850. There is no extra cost for colours; you can pick any of our 39.

Will drilling be a problem?
HDB lets you drill into most internal walls for things like shelves, but always avoid hidden pipes and wires. Our installers use the right fixings for concrete walls. If you rent or would rather not drill, many wall panels can go up without drilling. See acoustic panels without drilling.
What panels will not fix
Not on their own: panels soak up sound inside the room. They do not stop noise from the corridor, the lift lobby or the unit upstairs. For that you need better windows, door seals or heavier walls. See can panels help with neighbour noise.
How to spend less
Do one wall first. Use rugs, curtains and a full bookshelf, which also help. Put up the panels yourself. Or start with 4 panels behind your desk if the room is mainly for calls.
Layout for a common bedroom
For a 3 × 3.5 m room with a bed against one wall: 2 panels on the wall beside the desk, 2 on the wall behind your chair, and 2 above the bed head. That is 6 panels and covers the spots where your voice bounces first. Add 2 more on the wall opposite the window if it still rings.
A note for BTO owners
New flats echo most before the furniture arrives. Wait until your bed, wardrobe and curtains are in, then do the clap test. You may need fewer panels than you think. If you are still renovating, plan the panel spots with your ID so the lights and sockets do not clash.
What we see on real jobs
An empty new BTO bedroom can ring like a bathroom. Six panels and a rug usually sort it out, and the room still feels like a bedroom, not a studio.
