Quick answer: BBQ and hotpot restaurants combine extraction fans, sizzling, steam and lively groups, in rooms built with hard, easy-clean surfaces. Panels help, but must stay away from grills, steam and grease. Put them high on walls between tables and on ceiling areas away from hoods.

Key takeaways

  • Hoods, sizzling and groups make it loud.
  • Keep panels away from grills and steam.
  • High walls and clear ceiling areas.

Why it is loud

Each table has an extraction hood and a sizzling grill or boiling pot. Groups come to celebrate and talk loudly. Easy-clean tiles and steel bounce all of it.

Where panels can go

Panels go high on the walls between tables. They can also go on ceiling areas well away from hoods. See restaurant acoustics.

Where they cannot

Never put fabric panels right above grills, near steam, or in the path of a hood. Heat, grease and open flames are not safe for fabric. Safety comes before sound.

Cleaning

Panels placed away from grease and smoke stay clean longer. Vacuum them lightly with a soft brush on a regular schedule. Do not wet-clean fabric panels.

Fire safety

Kitchens and grills need fire-safe materials and proper clearances. Our panels are fire safe and formaldehyde safe, but they still must stay away from flames. For fire papers and QP/PE sign-off, we coordinate with the owner's side and third-party consultants. See fire safety.

Quieter hoods

Worn fans and dirty filters make hoods noisier. Regular servicing keeps them quieter. Panels cannot remove steady fan noise at the source.

Booth walls

High booth partitions are a good spot for panels between groups. They catch voices before they cross the room. Keep them above the table and away from the grill.

Music

Many BBQ places play music loud to cover the noise. Once the echo is under control, you can turn it down. Guests can then talk without shouting.

What we see on real jobs

We plan BBQ restaurant layouts around every hood first. Safety comes before sound.
