Quick answer: Stretched fabric walls cover a whole wall in fabric over a soft core, giving a seamless, premium look with good sound soaking. They are custom-built on site and cost more. Acoustic panels cover only where needed and are faster and cheaper to install. Choose fabric walls for a seamless feature; panels for cost-effective echo control.

Key takeaways

  • Fabric walls: seamless and premium.
  • Panels: faster and cheaper.
  • Both soak up sound well.

What stretched fabric walls are

A frame goes on the wall, then a soft core. Fabric is stretched tight over it, wall to wall. It is built on site.

Look

The finish is seamless, with no visible joins. It suits boardrooms, theatres and lobbies. It costs more for that look.

Cost and time

Fabric walls are custom-built on site. That means more labour and more cost. They also take longer to fit.

Panels

Panels cover only the area needed, at about S$255 per m² installed. Most installs take a few hours to 1 to 2 days. They come in 39 colours. See prices.

Sound

Both soak up sound well when the core is thick enough. Our 50 mm panels are NRC (a score from 0 to 1 for how much sound a panel soaks up) 1.00. Ask any fabric wall supplier for their rating. See thickness.

Mixing

You can use a fabric feature wall in one room and panels elsewhere. Panels can go on ceilings too. That keeps the budget for where it shows most.

Butted panels

Panels fitted edge to edge can give a near-seamless look for less. Pick one colour for the whole wall. Custom sizes can fill odd gaps.

Repairs

A fabric wall that gets damaged may need re-stretching. Damaged panels can be re-covered or replaced. Keep both away from water, grease and heat.

What we see on real jobs

For a seamless boardroom feature, fabric walls look great. For most rooms, panels give the same sound control for less.
