Quick answer: A small home studio in an HDB or condo room usually needs 6 to 12 wall panels, plus 2 to 4 thick corner panels for bass. Wall panels cost from S$185 each supplied and installed (50 mm, standard fixings included), so 6 to 12 panels is about S$1,110 to S$2,220. Corner bass panels are quoted separately. Most studios are done in half a day.
Key takeaways
- 6 to 12 wall panels: about S$1,110 to S$2,220 installed.
- Corner bass panels are quoted on top.
- Most home studios are done in half a day.
Why studios need more than a bedroom
In a bedroom you just want less echo. In a studio you need to trust what you hear. Bass builds up in the corners of small rooms, and the walls beside your speakers bounce sound into your ears. Both make your mixes sound wrong in the car. See home studio acoustic treatment.
What to buy first
1) Panels on the side walls where the sound first bounces. 2) A panel behind your speakers. 3) Corner panels for bass. 4) A panel on the ceiling above your desk. See first reflection points.

25 mm or 50 mm?
For a studio, use 50 mm panels where you can. They have an NRC (a score from 0 to 1 for how much sound a panel soaks up) of 1.00, against 0.80 for 25 mm, and soak up more of the low sound. 25 mm panels cost a little less; ask us. See are thicker panels better.

Do I need bass traps?
If you mix music with bass, yes. Small rooms boom. Thick corner panels help most. See do I need bass traps.
Recording vocals?
Add panels around where you sing, so your mic hears your voice and not the room. Face a treated wall rather than a window. Keep the mic close to your mouth. See where to place panels first.
A real job
For one home music studio, we fitted corner bass panels and wall panels. The fabric was black. The job took half a day.
Speaker and desk set-up first
Before buying anything, put your desk in the middle of the short wall, facing the long way down the room. Place the speakers so they form a triangle with your head. Keep them away from the wall behind them. This free step makes treatment work better.
Test it yourself
Play a song you know well before and after. Listen for bass notes that jump out or vanish, and for a ringing after claps. Use a free room-measurement app if you like, but your ears and the car test (does the mix sound right in the car?) are the real proof.
What we see on real jobs
In a small studio, the corners hold most of the bass. On one home music studio, corner bass panels and wall panels in black fabric took half a day to fit.
